BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION - SCIENTIFIC PREPARATION PROGRAM

The Aim Of The Program
The purpose of the scientific preparation program is to enable the candidate students, who are the graduates of departments other than the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Management or Faculty of Economics, to do a master's degree in business administration program.

Program Duration
In the scientific preparation program, if the student fails the specified courses in two semesters his/her registration is canceled. The period spent in this program is not included from the period of master or doctoral education.

General Admission Requirements
To be able to apply for a scientific preparation program, candidates should satisfy the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate graduation grade point average (GPA) must be at least 55 out of 100 or 2.50 (CC) out of 4.00.
  • Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) score must be at least 55 standard points of equal weight score type.
  • For English language proficiency, YDS (Foreign Language Proficiency Exam) or its equivalent in any other exam recognized by the Council of Higher Education score must be at least 40 or the equivalent scores from internationally recognized tests which are accepted by ÖSYM (Assessment Selection and Placement Center).

In the calculation of the success grade of the candidates applying to the scientific preparation program; ranking is made considering 50% of ALES score, 30% of undergraduate graduation grade, 20% of foreign language grade. The grade calculated in this way must be at least 50. There are no written exam and interview exam for the program.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION - NON-THESIS MASTER PROGRAM (MBA)

The Aim Of The Program
The MBA program in Business Administration was founded in 22.07.2008 to provide executive education. The aim of the program is to upskill management skills in basic business administration areas, such as management, production, marketing, accounting, financing, human resources, public relations, research and development, and to demonstrate their use in business life.
The program provides base about management skills for managers and trainee managers from different business lines and gain the ability to transfer theoretical knowledge to business life. The courses are carried out with the knowledge and experience of lecturers of Erciyes University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The program offered as secondary education, provides employees with the opportunity to specialize while continuing their careers and prepares the ground for their promotion in the institution they work for. It improves the managerial skills of candidates who are not yet in business life and increases the opportunity to find jobs in better conditions. It also provides entrepreneur candidates who plan to start their own businesses to increase their leadership competencies.

Program Duration
In the MBA program, the minimum education period is 2 semesters and the maximum education period is 3 semesters.  The students have to take minimum 10 courses and a term projects.

General Admission Requirements
All undergraduate graduates can apply to the MBA program. To be able to apply for a MBA program, candidates should satisfy the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate graduation grade point average (GPA) must be at least 55 out of 100 or 2.50 (CC) out of 4.00.
  • Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) score is not required. The ALES score of those who do not have ALES score will be evaluated as 50 points, and the candidates with ALES score above 50 points, the ALES scores of the related score type will be evaluated.

In the calculation of the success grade of the candidates applying to the MBA program; ranking is made considering 60% of undergraduate graduation grade, 20% of ALES score, 20% of foreign language grade if any. The grade calculated in this way must be at least 50. There are no written exam and interview exam for the program.

Descriptive Information
The program is offered as secondary education and it has tuition fee.
The students of MBA program who successively complete the courses and term project are given “Non-Thesis Master Diploma”. Those who continue the MBA program can switch to the master program with thesis if the related department has a master program and also candidate must meet the minimum requirements of the master program with thesis. Moreover, with the decision of the board of directors the courses taken can be counted instead of master’s courses with thesis.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION – MASTER PROGRAM (M.A.)

The Aim Of The Program
M.A. program of Business Administration Department was opened on 7.11.1984. The aim of the program; based on the undergraduate qualifications, to improve the level of expertise, to gain the ability to use theoretical knowledge in business life, to gain the ability to use interdisciplinary information, to gain the ability to research and solve problems using scientific research methods, and to transfer them in written and verbally by following the current developments.

Program Duration
In the M.A. program, the minimum education period is 4 semesters and the maximum education period is 6 semesters.  The students have to take minimum 10 courses, a lecture on specialized field and the thesis.

General Admission Requirements
To apply for business administration master program, candidates must graduate one of the bachelor programs from Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Business Administration. Apart from these programs, all bachelor graduates can apply, provided that they read scientific preparation program. To be able to apply for a M.A. program, candidates should satisfy the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate graduation grade point average (GPA) must be at least 55 out of 100 or 2.50 (CC) out of 4.00.
  • Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) score must be at least 55 standard points of equal weight score type.
  • For English language proficiency, YDS (Foreign Language Proficiency Exam) or its equivalent in any other exam recognized by the Council of Higher Education score must be at least 40 or the equivalent scores from internationally recognized tests which are accepted by ÖSYM (Assessment Selection and Placement Center).

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION – DOCTORAL PROGRAM (Ph.D.)

The Aim Of The Program
Ph. D. program of Business Administration Department was opened on 7.11.1984. The aim of the program is to provide the student necessary skills to conduct an independent research, to interpret scientific problems and data from a broad and deep perspective, to analyze and to reach new syntheses.

Program Duration
In the Ph. D. program, the minimum education period is 8 semesters and the maximum education period is 12 semesters.  The students have to take minimum 10 courses, a lecture on specialized field and the thesis.

General Admission Requirements
To apply business administration Ph. D. program, candidates must graduate the same field of the master programs. To be able to apply for a Ph. D. program, candidates should satisfy the following criteria:

  • Graduate graduation grade point average (GPA) must be at least 70 out of 100 or 2.00 (CC) out of 4.00. Candidates who will apply to the doctorate program with a bachelor's degree must have undergraduate graduation grade point average (GPA) of 80 out of 100 or 3 out of 4.
  • Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) score must be at least 55 standard points of equal weight score type. Candidates who apply to the doctorate program with a bachelor's degree must have at least 80 ALES points of the desired score type.
  • A valid ALES score is required. However, those who have completed their graduate education, who have completed this education or have been dismissed from the program, have applied for graduate programs at least one semester, and if they document this situation, it is not necessary to re-enter ALES.
  • For English language proficiency, YDS (Foreign Language Proficiency Exam) or its equivalent in any other exam recognized by the Council of Higher Education score must be at least 55 or the equivalent scores from internationally recognized tests which are accepted by ÖSYM (Assessment Selection and Placement Center). In the admission of students to the doctoral program, the candidate must have at least 55 points from one of the languages of English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Persian (except his/her native language) from the central foreign language examination or its equivalent in any other exam recognized by the Council of Higher Education.

In the calculation of the success grade of the candidates applying to the Ph. D. program; ranking is made considering 50% of ALES score, 30% of graduate graduation grade, 20% of foreign language grade. The grade calculated in this way must be at least 60. There are no written exam and interview exam for the program.

ECONOMICS GRADUATE PROGRAMS

The department of economics offers three different graduate programs, which are carried out within the Institute of Social Sciences, as master, doctorate and doctorate (in English) programs.

ECONOMICS MASTER PROGRAM

The master program has been run its education and training activities since 1989, affiliated to Erciyes University Institute of Social Sciences. The aim of this program is to train economics scientists who have the vision to be able to produce solutions by evaluating the economic problems from a critical, independent and scientific point of view. Key learning outcomes within the program framework are determined as follows:

  • Being able to produce the solutions for the problems they faced.
  • Being able to specialize in the sub-disciplines of economics.
  • Having the ability in using mathematical, statistical and econometric methods to solve the economic propositions.
  •  Having the scientific and moral values in collecting, analyzing and solving the economic data.
  • To gain the ability to prepare and write reports in the economic research process.
  • Having the ability in writing, speaking and understanding at least one foreign language in order to follow the foreign literature.
  • Having the ability to use package programs necessary required for economics.

To apply  for Economics Master Program, candidates must graduate one of the bachelor programs from Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Political Sciences and/or departments of Actuarial, Actuarial and Risk Management, Banking, Banking and Finance, Banking and Insurance, Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, Maritime Business and Management, Maritime Transportation Engineering, Maritime Business Administration, Econometrics, Economics, Economics and Finance, Real Estate Development and Management, Real Estate and Asset Valuation, Entrepreneurship, Aviation Management, Economics, Islamic Economics and Finance, Statistics, Statistics and Computer Sciences, Business, Management Engineering, Business Management, Business and Economics, Hospitality Management, Logistics Management, Finance, Accounting and Auditing, Marketing, Health Management, Art and Cultural Management, Art Management, Capital Markets and Portfolio Management, Capital Market, Travel Management, Insurance and Risk Management, Insurance and Social Security, Sports Management, Agricultural Economics, Tourism Management, Tourism and Hotel Management, Transportation and Logistics, International Finance, International Finance and Banking, International Entrepreneurship, International Business Management, International Business, International Business and Trade, International Logistics and Transportation, International Logistics Management, International Trade, International Trade and Finance, International Trade and Logistics, International Trade and Logistics Management, Food and Beverage Management within other faculties and colleges.

Candidates who want to apply for this program must have a minimum score of 50 points or above from YDS (Foreign Language Proficiency Exam) or its equivalent in any other exam recognized by the Council of Higher Education, or an equivalent score from international foreign language tests the equivalency of which are accepted by ÖSYM (Assessment Selection and Placement Center). Candidates must get a minimum of 60 points in the type of equally-weighted score from ALES (Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Exam). There are no written exam and interview exam for the program. The number of students to be admitted to the master program is a maximum of 20.

The Economics Master Program offers students compulsory courses such as microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, as well as different elective courses (international economics, environmental economics, regional development, European Union, game theory, etc.). In this way, students can have the opportunity to specialize in economic fields for their interests.

In this program, examination regulations, assessments and grading are implemented according to “Erciyes University Institute of Social Sciences Graduate Education, Instructions and Examination Regulations”.  In order to graduate this master program, the students must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.50 out of 4.00, to complete two semesters (60 ECTS in total), and to prepare and defend a master thesis. Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a master of degree in economics.

Students who successfully graduate from the master program can apply for doctoral programs provided that they have a valid score in the relevant type from Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), have sufficient level of English language certificate (ÜDS, TOEFL etc.) and have sufficient master graduate average.

Students who graduate from the economics master program can employ in the upper positions both in the public and private sectors, to be entrepreneurs, continue their doctorate programs and advance in their academic careers at well-known universities at home and abroad.

ECONOMICS DOCTORATE PROGRAM

Economics doctorate program has been run its education and training activities since 1998, affiliated to Erciyes University Institute of Social Sciences. This program aims to upskill the student with the necessary skills related to the field to research independently, to comment by examining scientific problems and data from a wide and deep perspective, to analyze and to reach new syntheses. Key learning outcomes within the program framework are determined as follows:

  • Being able to produce solutions to the economic problems in the light of economic theory.
  • Being able to follow economic developments in the regional and global level.
  • Being able to specialize in the sub-discipline of economics such as the theory of economics, economic policy, economic development and international economics.
  • Being able to transform economic problems into statistical and economic models.
  • Having the ability to use mathematical, econometric and statistical methods in order to solve economic problems.
  • Being able to have sufficient background in a foreign language and in economic theory in order to follow foreign literature.

To apply economics doctorate program, candidates must graduate one of the master programs in Economics, Econometrics, Finance, Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance and/or sub-branches related to these fields. Candidates who want to apply for this program must have a minimum score of 55 points or above from YDS (Foreign Language Proficiency Exam) or its equivalent in any other exam recognized by the Council of Higher Education, or an equivalent score from international foreign language tests the equivalency of which are accepted by ÖSYM (Assessment Selection and Placement Center). Candidates must get a minimum of 65 points in the type of equally-weighted score from ALES (Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Exam). It is obligatory to take the interview exam and have a minimum score of 60 from the interview exam. The number of students to be admitted to the doctorate program is a maximum of 12.

The doctorate program offers students compulsory courses such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, as well as different elective courses (financial markets, international economics, energy economics, regional development, knowledge economics, European Union, etc.). In this way, students can have an advanced degree of specialization in the economic fields related to their interests.

The doctorate program consists of the course, the proficiency exam, the thesis proposal, thesis studies and thesis defense exam. Students must take a minimum of 240 ECTS (maximum of 360 ECTS) with a course equivalent to 60 ECTS, the doctorate proficiency  equivalent to 30 ECTS, the thesis proposal equivalent to 30 ECTS, and the thesis studies equivalent to 25 ECTS and the special field courses equivalent to 5 ECTS in thesis periods with at least 4-semesters. After a successful proficiency exam, students must complete the process which starts with the thesis proposal and ends with the thesis defense exam. Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a doctorate of degree in economics.

Students who graduate from the economics doctorate program can employ in the upper positions both in the public and private sectors, to be entrepreneurs, continue their post-doctorate programs and advance in their academic careers at well-known universities at home and abroad.

This program aims to upskill the student with the necessary skills related to the field to research independently, to comment by examining scientific problems and data from a wide and deep perspective, to analyze and to reach new syntheses. Key learning outcomes within the program framework are determined as follows:

  • Being able to produce solutions to the economic problems in light of the economic theory.
  • Being able to follow economic developments at local, national and international levels.
  • Being able to specialize in sub-parts of economics- such as economic theory, economic policy, economic development and international economic-which constitutes economics.
  • Being able to transform economic problems into mathematical, statistical and econometric models.
  • Having the ability to use mathematical, econometric and statistical methods to solve the economic problems.
  • Being able to follow economic literature in English, able to write economic articles, papers and thesis in English and able to present these studies in English.
  • Being able to have sufficient background in a foreign language and in economic theory in order to follow foreign literature.

MASTER PROGRAM (M.A.)

Accepted its first students in Fall 2010, our MA program has been contributing to the specialization and education of professionals from both public and private sectors. Embedded in the multidisciplinary structure of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Erciyes University, our MA program provides education and a creative atmosphere for those whose primary interest is a professional career in especially foreign affairs in public or private sectors and in wide range of topics such as the relationship between politics and economics or international law.

Our MA program does not offer any narrow specializations such as policy training or decision making in foreign affairs but it is rather designed to broaden students’ intellectual horizons by introducing them to a variety of conceptual perspectives on international relations and to a variety of substantive international issue through required and elective courses. With its highly qualified faculty members, our program offers courses such as International Organizations, Research Methods and Theories of International relations as required courses while it gives the students options of several elective courses such as International Political Economy, Women and International Relations, Turkish-American Relations, Religion and Politics and Middle East and International Relations. Besides academic excellence and merit, Department of IR and the design of our MA program values social values and diversity. Therefore, it aims to create an academic environment that contributes not only to the academic or professional excellence of our students but also contributes to their lives and societies. As of Fall 2020, with its more than 20 graduates, our program has added to the developments at both regional and global scales within different public and private sectors. With its more than 40 currently enrolled students including international students, it excels at helping students with their education goals with an interdisciplinary and dynamic understanding of changing dynamics of world affairs.     

Program Requirements
Our MA program is designed as requiring students to fulfill the program requirements in a minimum 4 academic terms time. Depending on their coursework and research plans, students have the right to extend their studies to a maximum of 6 academic terms. Students are required to successfully complete minimum 10 courses and submit a thesis proposal to be approved by the faculty members of the field. Upon completing the required thesis proposal, students are required to successfully complete at least two semesters for Special Field Courses and Thesis Studies and write and defend a MA thesis. Students fulfilling the requirements graduate with a degree of Master of arts in International Relations which is required for PhD programs.   

Admission Requirements
Students from International Relations, Political Science and other relevant majors can apply to be considered for the admission to IR MA program. Students with a major that is considered outside the relevant fields can only apply with the requirement of 1 year of Prior learning that is designed according to the general regulations of Erciyes University, Institute of Social Sciences. The program accepts applications for both Fall and Spring Semesters depending on general university, faculty and department decisions. Students who plan to apply for IR MA program are required to meet the following general requirements:

  • A GPA of at least 55 (out of 100) or 2.00 (out of 4) and CC in letter grades.
  • A score of minimum 55 (category of equally-weighted Verbal and Quantitative sections) Academic Personal and Post-Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES)
  • Proficiency of English that is supported by a score of 40 from Foreign Language Exam (YDS- Yabanci Dil Sinavi) administered by The Council of Higher Education or an equivalent score from any foreign language exams accepted by Measuring, Selection and Placement Center (OSYM)   

Applications are to be submitted to the Institute of Social Sciences—not Department of International Relations—and the institute ranks the applicants according to total score calculated as: 50% (ALES) + 30% (GPA) + 20% (YDS). Each application term, the Institute announces successful candidates and further details for registration.

- Graduates of Public Administration, Political Science, Political Science and Public Administration, Political Science and International Relations, International Relations, Finance and Sociology and Faculty of Law may apply to Masters with Thesis Program.
- Graduates of Graduate or Post Graduate of Public Administration, Political Science, Political Science and Public Administration, Political Science and International Relations, International Relations, Finance and History, Theology, Faculty of Law, Sociology fields with Masters Degree with Thesis may apply to Phd program.
- Written exam and interwiew will be held for Masters Degree with Thesis and Phd Program. Candidates whose score of written exam and interview is under 60 (Sixty) wont be taken into consideration.

Principles of Opening and Execution of Post Graduate Education Program:

  • Relevant lecturers must have given a lecture throughout at least four semester in a licence or two semesters post graduate program for phd degree; throughout at least two semester in a licence program for post graduate program.
  • For Lecturer’s managing thesis in Phd programs, they must have managed a succesful post graduate thesis at least a year.
  • The upper limit of thesis consultancy perfaculty member in post graduate and Phd programs is 12.
  • (Consultancy number of related Department’s Lecturers, Melikşah University – which is transferred to our university by legislated delegation and of whose students in here in- is increased %50 to 18 by Senatus Consultum.)
